Abington hospital reached out to graphic designers based in the Philadelphia area to create murals in the children's trauma wing of the hospital with the hopes that the murals would provide a calming, safer environment for the children. My take on the murals was that they were meant to create an atmosphere that not only brings color and fun to the hospital but also allows the children experiencing trauma to engage with different environments throughout the hospital. The idea was to cover three walls throughout the hospital that represent different environments including a fictional take on a jungle, an ocean, and space illustrated in ways that are approachable, and relaxing while full of life and imagination.
Each wall in the hospital was measured on site and accommodations were made for items that could not be moved, such as cabinets and clocks. Once the blueprints were made I was able to come up with the concepts within the guidelines. The guidelines stated no violent colors, nothing too realistic such as photo realism, and lastly to create a mural that transports children into a world outside of the hospital. The solution was to create different environments that allow the children to escape into the wonders of the world. In addition, a game within the murals was created for the kids to engage in.
The murals represent nature and the various species and characteristics that go along with them. As previously stated, each character is accompanied by one that is colored differently as to create the game aspect of it all. The jungle biome features tigers, toucans, frogs, and many other jungle creatures. The space landscape features rockets, the cow jumping over the moon and aliens. Lastly the ocean scene features sharks, swordfish, eels, and many other creatures. The experience again allows for the children to escape, have fun, and learn about the nature around them.
Catalyst is a movement developed and designed alongside TJU's Environmental Department that focuses on extreme sustainability. I was tasked with creating a social media experience, a rewards system, and a website. The social media application shares projects done by people, tracks users recycling data, shares daily world statistics and information regarding world health, and has an Augmentative Reality scanner for pop-up interactions and shows the best way to dispose of trash. Along with this, there is a built-in rewards system that showcases a T-shirt package with a pamphlet that states why this Catalyst movement exists and folds into a poster to prevent physical waste. Saving the world by turning trash into treasure.
Click to ViewClick to ViewClick to ViewClick to ViewClick to ViewInvasion is a digital experience developed for a previous classmate of mine. His task for the project was to inform people about a controversy that he was interested in, specifically alien life within our solar system. Rather than doing a PowerPoint or a presentation, he contacted me and asked if I could help. Together we created a responsive and animated digital experience that tells the story of alien activity from prehistoric times through modern-day events including abductions, phenomena, and modern technologies thought to have been influenced by the outer-worldly. The final delivery was a unique experience people could download to their phones to view the information and imagery discovered in our research.
