The Bayou Bar and Grill is a restaurant located in Manayunk that is best described as a college bar. I worked with the manager/ owner to create a restaurant rebrand of all that the bar is and how it will newly identify itself. Its current branding was outdated and lacked character to separate itself from the other bars on the strip. My solution to this was to encompass its Creole culture and design it in a way that appears abstract and fun, because the atmosphere of this bar is a place to drink and have fun with friends. Combining the culture with the atmosphere ultimately produced a new identity that is unique and stands out.
“Let me Bayou a beer” became the new slogan of the bar. in addition to a new logo, and overall atmosphere change. Whether it was a menu, a uniform, a business card, etc., everything was revamped to look like Creole culture while appearing to its fun and drunken crowd.
The new identity of the bar incorporates a style that is freehand and abstract combined with traditional Creole art. The new logo is the Bayou formed into the shape of a crawfish masked with creole paintings. The new menus feature similar design elements and have custom typography to accompany the new look. The imagery is represented by paintings that are traditional to the culture but have been edited to fit the style. A new uniform was also developed to encompass the new logo and slogan of the brand. The menus are made of wood and directly printed on and then laminated to protect them from food and drinks. Lastly, new business cards were made, a new cover letter, and coasters to again become the new brand that it is and appeals to its demographic while respecting the culture that it is based on.
Invasion is a digital experience developed for a previous classmate of mine. His task for the project was to inform people about a controversy that he was interested in, specifically alien life within our solar system. Rather than doing a PowerPoint or a presentation, he contacted me and asked if I could help. Together we created a responsive and animated digital experience that tells the story of alien activity from prehistoric times through modern-day events including abductions, phenomena, and modern technologies thought to have been influenced by the outer-worldly. The final delivery was a unique experience people could download to their phones to view the information and imagery discovered in our research.
