welcome!

My name is Ryan Monte, and I am a Graphic Designer

About Me

I am a graduate of Thomas Jefferson University with a degree in Graphic Design and Marketing. During my experience in the program, my classes were geared toward marketing and branding with an interest in animation, web design, experiential, UI/ UX, and information design. I became very fond of the digital horizon of design, and how it can be a catalyst for clients and consumers to interact with one another and create real change in the world through technology and a mission. I enjoy the role of being the person to help bridge the gap between the two, solving problems with impactful and logical solutions that showcase a high level of craftsmanship and my curiosity to learn and utilize new techniques to achieve the final delivery. In addition to my academic studies, I became a member of AIGA and an active brother of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. Outside of college, I worked as an HVAC assistant mechanic, a production assistant/ designer, a photo editor, and a bartender. I have an interest in working with others and learning new skills outside of graphic design in addition to always being a student of life. These other experiences have taught me how to not only work with other people but to understand how I can help in any situation within a team environment. My interests include digital art, video games, outdoor activities, and hanging out with friends and family. My mission in life is to bring people together from all walks of life to create a better world day by day, knowing that it takes a functional and progressive team to make a real impact. So let's create great work together!

Projects

Catalyst

Catalyst is a movement developed and designed alongside TJU's Environmental Department that focuses on extreme sustainability. I was tasked with creating a social media experience, a rewards system, and a website. The social media application shares projects done by people, tracks users recycling data, shares daily world statistics and information regarding world health, and has an Augmentative Reality scanner for pop-up interactions and shows the best way to dispose of trash. Along with this, there is a built-in rewards system that showcases a T-shirt package with a pamphlet that states why this Catalyst movement exists and folds into a poster to prevent physical waste. Saving the world by turning trash into treasure.

INVA51ON

Invasion is a digital experience developed for a previous classmate of mine. His task for the project was to inform people about a controversy that he was interested in, specifically alien life within our solar system. Rather than doing a PowerPoint or a presentation, he contacted me and asked if I could help. Together we created a responsive and animated digital experience that tells the story of alien activity from prehistoric times through modern-day events including abductions, phenomena, and modern technologies thought to have been influenced by the outer-worldly. The final delivery was a unique experience people could download to their phones to view the information and imagery discovered in our research.

Actaeon

Actaeon is a brand that I developed in collaboration with the people at John Heinz Wildlife Reserve. It is a brand that involves three separate deliverables including a website, an app, and a field guide. Through research and site visits, this encompassing experience with one mission, to save and preserve national parks across America.

The Bayou

The Bayou Bar and Grill is a local restaurant on Main Street in Manayunk. I was tasked with rebranding their restaurant by providing a new logo, menu redesign, identity redesign, and uniform design. The redesign aims to capture the essence of Creole culture by featuring traditional New Orleans paintings that have been stylized to emphasize the feeling of being impaired. This stylization was intentional as the restaurant attracts a lot of young adults in a party like setting, combining culture with the environment of how the bar behaves and celebrates the "good times" culture.

Experiential Murals

This project was done in collaboration with Abington Hospital, Philadelphia. It consists of three murals scattered around the hospital that are representations of landscapes around the world. It was built for the children's sector of the hospital with the intent to help kids not feel trapped in a hospital and to give them the feeling of adventure. Each mural represents a habitat in nature with animals and objects unique to the ecosystem. In addition to this, an app was mapped out as an "I Spy" like game where each animal has one unique animal to find. Once scanned on the mural, it gives real-life information about the animal so the kids are not only adventuring but learning about the planet as well.
